OBSE and local Tri Store, Tri Outer Banks Sports located in Kill Devils, NC are no strangers to each other when it comes to partnering together! The Tri store has been the exclusive vendor on site since 2012 for OBSE’s annual Outer Banks Triathlon held each September.
It was only after being approached by several other race organizations to be a bigger part of a Tri event that owner’s of the store Butch & Debbie Luke decided that it was time to raise the bar and be a full-fledged major sponsor of the event that they have come to love so much; The Outer Banks Triathlon! ”In fact the Sprint distance in the OBX Tri was the very first triathlon I did!” Butch noted. Butch, also a volunteer at OBSE’s other events, has been a triathlete ever since that sprint in 2009! Completing 3 out of 4 Iron Man Triathlons and over 25 varying distances in the sport itself.
Debbie Luke has a background in health, PE and coached swimming & track.
So, it was an obvious decision to make when they decided to open the tri store in 2012. At the time the community needed a place for it’s triathletes to have access to tri gear, nutrition, apparel and shoes. Butch & Debbie set out to fulfill that need for the community and Tri Outer Banks Sports was born.
Located at 3105 N. Croatan Hwy, Kill Devil Hills NC, the store offers much more than that including Butch’s own invention, the “Time Band-it”! A tool you wear under your GPS watch that literally “puts time on your side” and allows for a more efficient way of looking at your data whether you are swimming, biking or running. You can find out more at www.timeband-it.com.
Tri Outer Banks Sports also offers bike repair, bike fittings, and rents out both wetsuits and bikes. To find out more about Tri Outer Banks Sports, visit them at their store, call the store @ 252-715-3278 or jump online at www.obxtrisports.com.
